James Sidlow Baxter (1932-1935)
Scroggie sent a letter to Bethesda after calling Baxter;
"Bethesda has a noble tradition...I doubt not you are fortunate in having secured for your minister Mr Baxter, and I am perfectly sure be is fortunate in being invited to the pastorate of such a church".
Baxter began his ministry in Bethesda in 1932 and was called to Charlotte Chapel in 1935.
Baxter's greatest known work is Explore the Book. He also wrote such treasures as The Master Theme of the Bible and his devotional book sits in the Whitehouse library.
Some of his sermons can be listened to here.
